Alcohol Withdrawal Hallucinations

Hallucinations from alcohol withdrawal can include visual, auditory or even tactile hallucinations and often begin to appear within 24 hours of the last drink.

Alcohol Withdrawal Seizures

Much like the hallucinations, generalized seizures from alcohol withdrawal can start to begin within 24 hours after the last drink. Even minor seizures can cause serious injuries to a patient.

Alcohol Withdrawal Status Epilepticus

Of the patients that develop seizures from alcohol withdrawal, about 3% will develop a more serious type of seizure known as “status epilepticus”. These are more serious and are a medical emergency, these seizures can lead to disability or even death. Seek professional attention immediately.

Alcohol Withdrawal Delirium Tremens

The most serious of the alcohol withdrawal symptoms is known as “Delirium tremens” and can lead to death. Delirium tremens often occurs about two or three days after the last drink. Symptoms include disorientation, confusion, hallucinations, rapid heart rate, increased breathing, high blood pressure, low-grade fever, sweating, agitation/irritability, stupor and even loss of consciousness.
